2010 Red Rock Winemaker's Blend
An Experience in Balance
In the winery, we take care to achieve a delicate harmony between fruit and hints of oak, balancing body with flavor. Our Red Rock Winery Reserve Winemaker’s Blend was crafted with balance in mind, using a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The Petite Sirahadds unique charactereristicsto this blend, revealing concentrated aromas of dark plum jam and blueberry from the wine.Plush and balanced, this blend offers rich blackberry on the finish, with hints of spice and vanilla. Our Winemaker’s Blend is an excellent match for a wide range of foods, offering a delicious balance to creamy pasta dishes, light desserts or mild cheeses.
For our Red Rock Winery 2009 Winemaker's Blend, we chose Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah to create a truly balanced wine. Petite Sirah typically features small berries, resulting in a high skin to juice ratio. The Petite Sirah in this blend contributes an inky color and jammy fruit aromas; the purple-black hue of this blend hints at the depth of flavor in the glass.
Our wine is California appellated, giving our winemaker, Debbie Juergenson, the flexibility to find the highest quality fruit from some of California’s premier vineyards. For our 2010 Winemaker’s Blend, Debbie Juergenson selected a portion of the grapes from San Luis Obispo & Sonoma County.
The grapes were harvested at night and early in the morning in order to preserve the natural fruit characteristics. The grapes were de-stemmed, but not crushed, to keep more whole berries in the fermentor, which enhanced the varietal character of the finished wine. The grapes were then fermented on the skins for five to ten days with a temperature below 88°F before fermentation was complete. The entire blend underwent malolactic fermentation, adding complexity to the aromas and flavors and ensuring stability in the finished wine. The wine was aged on light lees for nine months and was then racked and filtered and spent two months in bottle prior to release.
Our Winemaker’s Blend exhibits concentrated aromas of dark plum jam and blueberry with light caramel notes. The wine has a plush mouthfeel with flavors of blackberry, light brown spice and vanilla.
